Getting started

Create an Urge account

Download Urge from the App Store and open it. Tap Sign in with phone number, enter your number, and type the 6-digit code we text you. New numbers continue to account creation: add your email (used for account recovery), then your name, date of birth, and gender. You can also sign in with Apple. You must be 18 or older — confirm the 18+ checkbox to continue.

Urge overview

Urge is an adults-only dating app. Browse Spotlight (popular people), swipe nearby people in Discover, or open Magnet to see who's around you right now ranked by pull — chemistry and distance. Like the ones you're into; when it's mutual you match and can chat. Messages disappear 72 hours after they're sent.

How the nearby radar works

The radar shows active people near you, closest first, based on your device location. Browsing is free. You can change how far it looks and who it shows in Filters.

Change your language

Urge is currently available in English. Support for more languages is planned.

Your profile

Add or edit your photos

Go to Profile → My Photos. Tap a slot to add a photo from your camera or library. Every photo is checked by automatic moderation before it appears. You can long-press a photo to make it your main one or remove it.

Edit your profile

Go to Profile → Edit Profile to set your bio, height, job, interests, languages, what you're looking for, and lifestyle details. Your location/city is set automatically from GPS. Note: gender can't be changed after sign-up.

Discovery

Discovery settings & filters (distance, age, show me)

Tap the Filters icon on the Discover screen. Drag the distance slider and the age range slider, and choose who to Show me (Women, Men, or Everyone). Apply to update your radar.

How do I like or pass someone?

Swipe right (or tap the ♥) to like, swipe left (or tap ✕) to pass. Tap a card to open the full profile.

What is a Super Like?

A Super Like (the ★) tells someone you're especially interested before you even match — your like stands out to them.

What is Boost?

Boost pushes your profile higher in nearby people's radar for a limited time, so more people see you.

What is Magnet?

Magnet shows people around you right now, ranked by pull — a mix of chemistry (how well your profiles fit) and distance. Your strongest pull is featured at the top. Tap anyone to open their profile, and use the four status chips to filter by who wants to meet, who's free tonight, who's active now, and who's just browsing.

Set your status (Wants to meet · Free tonight · Just browsing)

Your status tells nearby people what you're here for right now. Set it in Settings. "Active now" is automatic when you're online — it can't be set manually.

Matching & messaging

How matching works

When you like someone who already liked you (or who likes you back), it's a match. New matches appear in the Chats tab.

How do I message someone?

Open the Chats tab, tap a match, and type your message. You can only message people you've matched with.

React to a message

Long-press any message bubble to react with an emoji. Tap the same emoji again to remove it, or a different one to change it. You get one reaction per message.

Disappearing messages (72 hours)

To keep things casual, messages automatically disappear 72 hours after they're sent. A notice at the top of every chat reminds you that messages disappear.

Unmatch someone

Open the conversation, tap the menu in the top-right, and choose Unmatch. This removes the match and deletes the conversation for both people.

Who Liked You

The Likes tab shows people who have already liked you, so you can like them back for an instant match. Seeing who liked you is free for women; men need Premium.
